Directed by Sheryll Franko
Synopsis
Having suffered failed marriages, failed businesses, and failed suicide attempts, Drew Horn set out on a mission to end loneliness. Having become "a person again, not an illness," thanks to an intervention undertaken by his daughter, Drew regained his life to co-found in 2001 the non-profit Turn-A-Frown-Around Foundation (TAFA). The film follows Drew and his group of colorful volunteers, many of whom have previously been helped by the organization, as they visit geriatric care facilities and psychiatric hospitals with the mission to eradicate loneliness/isolation and create "forever-friends" through the use of inspirational comedy, music, and hugs.

How to Touch a Hot Stove seeks to revolutionize the way people think about mental health. The film examines the causes and effects of the labels and stigmas associated with mental illness. It highlights the reasons people fail to seek treatment for mental health issues and exposes the shortcomings of treatment systems. Given that most of us are not mental health professionals, where do we as a society begin? How do we touch "hot stoves?" These questions are at the crux of this film that is at once intellectually challenging and emotionally moving, while also an impetus for change.
